FAQs
What is a birth doula?
A specially trained companion that will support a person throughout pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period. The doula is there to provide unbiased support to the birthing person and family emotionally, educationally, mentally and physically.
Why should I hire a doula?
This can be answered in so many different ways! Having a birth doula is statistically proven to improve birth outcomes drastically overall. There are so many benefits to having a doula by your side including having someone educated to answer questions 24/7 during antepartum, labor and postpartum periods, having someone to help you advocate for your birth preferences and know your rights in the delivery room, having someone familiar to support you if you have no family present or maybe it’s just because you just want to find comfort in knowing that you and your partner will be guided through this beautiful realm of the unknown. Whatever your reason is for wanting a birth doula- I’m your girl J
When during pregnancy should I hire a doula?
It’s never too late! I always say as long as the baby is still inside- it is not too late to hire me. However, the earlier the better. I like to meet clients before 37 weeks to make sure we are well suited and acquainted to each other but I am willing to support a birthing person no matter when you hire me!
What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?
The largest difference between the two is that a midwife is a medically trained professional while a doula is not. A doula is trained in supporting the mother and family with different relaxation techniques, positioning in labor, helping clients to advocate for themselves and much, much more!
What if I can’t afford your prices?
I am a strong believer in birth support for ANYONE who wants it. For that reason- I offer a sliding scale fee based on income and situations. I am also willing to specialize a payment plan. We can make it work! Just reach out and I’m sure we will find a way to get you the pregnancy and labor support you deserve.
